One of my friends remarked that I should do a Shakespearean calendar, and I honestly had to smack myself for not having thought of it before. First, of course, had to be Titania.

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull'd in these flowers with dances and delight;
And there the snake throws her enamell'd skin,
Weed wide enough to wrap a fairy in

--Oberon, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act II, Scene I, 249-256.

I fit in as many of the above mentioned flowers as I could, but stopped short of making the piece too busy. The gorgeous model, I owe to lockstock [link] and her reference photo [link] The wings are courtesy of Sooper Deviant's [link] beautiful butterfly [link]

Thank you very much! "Titania" is one of my favorite paintings from this past year and is one of the chosen few that hangs in my studio, where I spend the most time (unless I'm sleeping, of course, when the bedroom wins!).

That used to be the case for me, too--that is bedroom = studio and or couch = studio. Our current residence is the first one with space enough for each of us to have a room of our own to work or read in, in addition to the normal living spaces. How I love my little studio! :)

As for "Titania," she is not framed. I very seldom frame my canvases and usually just dress their edges with a coat of paint.

Her face is beutiful! We have fairies in our tradition too, but the most famous fairies are from epic folk songs from midle age. Most famous is vila Ravioila ( fairie Raioila ), step or God sister of Kralevic Marko ( Prince Marko, folks hero from midle age ).
Anyway, Your painting is very thoghtful!

I am unfamiliar with Serbian folklore, so thank you for giving me names to look up--I love legends and mythology. Thank you, too, for your comments and compliments!

I am so glad that You are interested in this, Margerit Jursenar ( I am not sure about speling ) wrote about prince Marko, and Goethe translated some of Serbian epic poems.

O my god, Ophelia is beautiful! She looks so wistful. And i love how you captured the longing and despair and innocence of her character all in that picture of her face.
Aw, poor Ophelia!
But yay for you!

"Ophelia" is another painting that, had a friend not been the one to ask about purchasing her, I'd probably still have. I know, I know, it defeats the purpose of being an artist if I keep everything I do that I like, but some pieces are truly gifts from my muse.
Thank you for your compliments! I look forward to your thoughts on the remaining calendar months. I only have, oh, nine more to go! :P

Ha ha! I totally get that. I haven't sold anything I've done, but I have given away pieces as gifts that I could barely stand to part with. Its difficult, they can become like children when you work so hard on them and put so much into them, right?
:)
I will check out the other months of your calendar, I really love what I've seen so far <3
Good look on the other nine months!

They are like children, and the one's that leave me thinking "Wow, I painted that?" are more special still. It's one thing to have a painting come out just as it was in your head, but it's totally another for it to surprise you by going beyond that.
